Joe Scarpa began his pizza and restaurtant career in NYC over 50 years ago. After several locations in Manhattan and Queens he moved to PA and opened Luca Pizza in the Woodhaven Mall. He then opened many pizzerias in the area- Havertown, Lehigh Valley Mall, Harrisburg East Mall and Christiana Mall, where this pizzeria was located in the nation's first food court.
After that he rebranded his operation under the name Allegro Pizza. His first locations being in Frederick MD and Bala Cynwd. Soon after he embraced the University City area and opened first at 36th and Chestnut Sts. in 1982 and a year later at 40th and Spruce Sts. He operated at 40th & Spruce until selling to its present owner in 2006.
Wanting to move on to larger endeavors he opened his dream of a full scale Italian restaurant and bar in the Horsham Montgomery County area named Allegro Grille. He remained there until selling in 2012. During this time he also opened Ecco Qui at 31st and Chestnut Sts.
Sean Dundon, known around the area as Cousin Sean, grew up in Brooklyn where he went on to graduate at SUNY Cortland. He decided to move to Philly and work with his dad at Allegro Pizza, 40th & Spruce Sts. where he became the manager.
When both were approached by the Spak Group to open a neighborhood pizzeria in their efforts to support the community they jumped at the chance. Park Pizza!
